What We Do
Lateral Associate / Counsel Placement
Lake Forest Consulting specializes in working with talented legal associates as they navigate the complicated world of lateralling within the legal marketplace. For attorneys with one to eight years of practice experience, it is often difficult and always time-consuming to keep pace with the legal marketplace. LFC works with highly qualified candidates and sophisticated law firms throughout the United States to identify and fill positions in litigation & transactional practice groups across all legal specialties and platforms.
While there is never only one factor to what makes a qualified attorney, LFC focuses its reach on candidates with the highest law school/LLM achievements, federal and state judicial clerkship/internships, and consistent work histories with reputable past employers. LFC has successfully placed associate candidates who are currently thriving throughout the AMLAW 50, AMLAW 100, and AMLAW 200 in nearly every region in the country, for example: Columbus, OH; Charlotte, NC; Washington, D.C.; Miami, FL; Chicago, IL; New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; and Dallas, TX.
A large firm environment is not necessarily for every attorney. LFC also works with smart, capable junior-senior level associates who are looking for unique opportunities with regional, mid-sized, and small law practices. With little exception, the associates placed by LFC into smaller sized firms in Coral Gables, FL; Miami, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Boca Raton, FL; and West Palm Beach, FL have all remained with the firms that hired them, and both the attorneys and firms continue to work with LFC to expand their practices!
Partner Placement
LFC is also adept at making the connections necessary to lead to partnership placements. Many law firms remain in growth mode and are interested in pursuing new opportunities with partner-level candidates. Most firms will seek strong candidates with significant books of business (with portable books at least large enough to keep their practices self-supporting from inception) and who are interested in continuing to grow their and a potential firm’s practice, in existing practice areas, as well exploring complimentary or new practice areas within a firm’s market.
Multiple Attorney/Group Laterals
There are times when law firms seek to hire multiple attorneys to join a practice group or when a firm seeks to merge an entire practice into an already existing firm. LFC is positioned to assist in these transactions from initiation through completion of the deal.
Law Firm Succession
Many small to mid-sized law firms, though highly successful, lack succession plans for when the founding and/or business generating attorneys in the firm wish to slow their practices. LFC advises owners/partners on the options available to them for the operation of their practice as circumstances change into the business’ future. Whether a sale or a merger, there is no substitute for a sound succession strategy.
